Plaintiffs have posted two letters from Senator John McCain. First, on August 1, 2002, Senator McCain wrote to the Senator Inouye, Chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, and -- citing the fact that Tom Slonaker was apparently forced to resign his position as Special Trustee for American Indians -- urged the Committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding his resignation. "I am certain you will appreciate the serious nature of this continuing problem and the need for review of these recent events . . . ." http://www.indiantrust.com/documents/2002.08.01_McCain2.pdf Second, on August 2, 2002, Senator McCain wrote to Secretary Norton and noted: "[T]he successive resignations of two Special Trustees gives rise to even more serious concern about the ability of the Department to comply with statutory and court mandated obligations to Indian beneficiaries." Senator McCain continued: "I intend to seek additional congressional review to investigate further the implications of Mr. Slonaker's resignation . . . ." http://www.indiantrust.com/documents/2002.08.01_McCain1.pdf To subscribe to the Indian Trust mailing list, please paste the following link into your browser: http://www.indiantrust.com/
